Last Sunday, the Toronto Police Superintendent Peter Yuen came back to Vision Youth to teach Leadership to our youth. The topic of the session was "Community Engagement". Before the talk, he discussed the violent terrorist attack in Paris last week. Most of the feedback were sad, anger and helpless. Peter encourage our youth to actively participate in event related to the topic and put the issue into a positive spin.
Coincidentally, our Vision Youth Graduate Barbara Suen came back to talk about a Non-profit organization - Rumie, she helped co-organized last year.
The Rumie Initiative, named the World’s Best Social Startup in 2014, organizes the best free learning resources available online and delivers them to communities on $50 offline-usable tablets.
This holiday season, Rumie needs your help to send over 1,000 tablets to Syrian children in refugee camps. You can read more about the campaign here.
December 5th is International Volunteer Day. Join Rumie and the Ryerson DMZ for an event to celebrate entrepreneurship and support #LearnSyria, Rumie's 2015 campaign to bring education to Syrian children.
This free event is a great opportunity to get together with other people who want to give back and donate time and knowledge to help Syrian refugees. Just bring your laptop and your knowledge.

You and your friends can help in two ways:
(1) Fundraise to sponsor $50 Rumie Tablets (a library for the cost of a book preloaded with a curriculum that works fully offline)
(2) Join us on December 5th at the Ryerson Digital Media Zone, where millennials from all over GTA will gather to help source and curate learning resources on our LearnCloud curation platform, celebrate their achievements, and learn about social innovation and entrepreneurship.
About #LearnSyria:
- Each tablet is $50 and 100% of donations go towards tablets.
- Tablets are loaded with textbooks and videos developed by the Syrian Education Commission and Nafham for the Syrian curriculum, Arabic Wikipedia for Schools, English learning resources, and additional resources online volunteers are helping us with.
- More info on the tablets is here: rumie.org/rumie-tablets
