On 13th July
2019, the Bronze and Silver Visioneers explored Downtown Toronto by the use of
TTC. The event was organized by the Gold Visioneers and aimed to equip the
Visioneers with knowledge on the public transportation system. There were
various checkpoint stations, including North York Civic Center, Toronto Music
Garden, Graffiti Alley, St. Lawrence Market, High Park and Cherry Beach.
Unlike previous
sessions, participants were divided into 9 groups, combining Bronze and Silver
Visioneers. By doing so, they could socialize with other Visioneers apart from
their usual group mates.
During the event, participants
were not allowed to use Google Maps and search for the answer through the Internet.
They had to apply the navigation skills learnt in outdoor training to race
around town. It helped consolidate and reinforce their learning in a fun and
active way.
At each station,
groups had to finish a team building challenge as well as answer several
questions about the place. At the same time, there were “anywhere challenge” questions,
for example, taking selfies and singing songs with strangers. It allowed participants
to step out of their comfort zone.
