Cash Dash (Amazing Race)

Bacala, Alexandra Rose Callanta

On 28th July 2018, the Bronze Visioneers participated in a miniature version of the Amazing Race in which teams explored Downtown Toronto. The event was organized by the Gold Visioneers that were scattered in various checkpoints such as Rogers Centre and Roundhouse Park, Art Gallery of Ontario, China Town and Kensington Market, Korea Town, and Mel Lastman Square.
Unlike previous sessions, the youths were separated into a different mix of participants aside from their usual superhero groups. This allowed the teenagers to socialize with others and not stay with their usual friends. Apart from socializing, teams were quick to recognize each other’s assets which helped them through some of the activities such as performing, strategizing, and more.
The Visioneers also had to use the navigation skills they have learnt during outdoor training to race around town using the TTC. Learning how to use the TTC is an important feature of this session as it equips the youth with knowledge on the transportation system.
At each checkpoint, groups had to finish a team building challenge as well as answer a few questions about the place. The tasks were difficult enough to get the teenagers to think quick on their feet and get creative. Additionally, numerous activities pushed the participants out of their comfort zone as they asked pedestrians to join them in a dance-off, sing songs, as well as capture a few photos together. It was certainly a fun day for the Visioneers.
